About the Research
These were two of the most technically difficult tanks we’ve been asked to fibreglass line due to the tanks resembling ice cream cones and almost narrowing to a point at the base. Not only this but they had baffle walls inside which limited the working space.
- Project Title Cone Tanks
- Category Tank Lining
- Location Manchester
Following a couple of site surveys and agreement with the client that they would cut a hatchway in each of the baffle walls, an order was placed and the work was scheduled.
Method Statement, Risk Assessment, COSHH Assessment, insurance covers and confined space training certificates were issued to client. Prior to the tank surfaces being gritblasted, and suitable dust/fume extraction had to be arranged and put in place – this was all handled by Lining Services.
The tanks were primed with isophthalic resin and 2 layers of 450 gram chopped strand matting were applied. This was followed by a resin wash and a flowcoat in light grey. They now are transformed and have a ceramic like finish, easy to clean and free from further corrosion.
